I understand what's at stake
When it comes to youth mobility, the findings are rather alarming: in France, 26% of trips to school between 1 and 2 km are made by car, and more than a third of trips between 2 and 5 km. The average age for a child’s first independent trip is steadily increasing (11.6 years), and French teenagers are among the most sedentary in the world!
Developing children’s independence and eco-mobility is something they learn from a very young age, and it often starts with the commute to school.
Taking action
Coordinating among parents is often the best way to fit everything into the schedule, work around time constraints, and avoid making multiple car trips.

- Set up a walking carpool for the children. It works like a school bus route, with scheduled stops and supervision by volunteer parents.
- Set up a supervised route to allow children to ride their bikes to school.
- Join a parent group or organization that offers eco-friendly and very practical solutions.
