Car rental and car sharing: What if it were right for you?

I understand what's at stake

Owning a vehicle is expensive—and getting increasingly so. The price of new cars has risen sharply in recent years, and on top of that, there are the costs of insurance, maintenance, and vehicle inspections…

It also comes with a significant environmental cost: the production of each new vehicle generates 5 to 10 metric tons of CO2e.

Renting allows you to choose a vehicle perfectly suited to each need (a van for hauling heavy loads, a minivan for family vacations, a city car or sedan for daily trips, such as the commute to work).

There are several types of rental options:

  • Vehicle rentals through a specialized company (by the day, week, or month),
  • Car-sharing (subscription-based services, short-term rentals: by the hour or by the day),
  • Peer-to-peer rentals
