Transport

Have you measured the impact of your trip?

I understand what's at stake

Air travel is no longer such a rare occurrence (at least for some people): the lower cost of tickets with low-cost airlines, along with encouragement from the media and social media to “see the world,” have contributed to the rise in air travel. This has led to a very significant increase in greenhouse gas emissions.

While some air travel is necessary (such as visiting loved ones abroad, which accounts for less than 20% of flights), alternatives are available for other types of trips: you can choose destinations accessible by train, and even get away for shorter stays thanks to overnight trains. We could then save air travel for longer, less frequent vacations.

Every flight avoided is a step toward a more sustainable climate future.

The Carbon Footprint of Air Travel Compared to Other Modes of Transportation

Taking action

When choosing your next trip:

  • Prefer destinations that are accessible by train.
  • Compare the time it takes to travel from your home to your destination (including travel time to the airport and waiting time at the airport). It’s often more convenient to take the train.
  • Compare the greenhouse gas emissions from your flight with those of other modes of transportation.
