How do you choose a restaurant concerned about the environment?

I understand what's at stake

Are you meeting up with friends or family and in charge of making restaurant reservations? Why not take this opportunity to find one that’s concerned about the environment? It’s always a pleasure to dine at a restaurant that offers menus crafted with respect for the seasons and the natural world, with a strong emphasis on organic and locally sourced ingredients.

Here are some signs that indicate a restaurant’s commitment to good practices and minimizing its environmental impact:

  • A simple menu
  • A daily special
  • Vegetarian options (at least one main course and one appetizer that sound tempting!)
  • Homemade appetizers, main courses, and desserts
  • Use of seasonal produce (fruits, vegetables, fish)
  • Use of organic and/or local ingredients for all or part of the menu
  • Practices in place to reduce packaging waste (slicing bread upon request; sauces and sugar served in bulk rather than in individual portions)
