Eating less meat: Where to start?

I understand what's at stake

The amount of meat you consume is clearly the factor that has the greatest impact on your carbon footprint when it comes to food.

Here’s why:

  • Ruminants (cattle, sheep, goats) produce significant amounts of greenhouse gases through their digestion.
  • Feeding the animals that will later feed us requires the use of large amounts of land for crops that also have a significant environmental impact…
  • …especially since they are among the leading causes of deforestation.

Taking action

To limit the impact of your meat consumption and protect your health, here are the recommendations from ADEME and Santé Publique France:

  • No more than 500 grams of meat per week (the equivalent of 3 to 4 steaks, or standard portions) and no more than 150 g of deli meats (3 to 5 slices of ham)
  • Choose chicken or turkey whenever possible
  • Choose meat from animals raised locally that carry a quality label.

Do you find it hard to imagine a meal without meat? Why not explore plant-based alternatives?

What's in it for me?

Meat is one of the most expensive foods. Cutting back on meat is a smart, eco-friendly, and economical choice!
