How can you minimize heat loss in the winter?
I understand what's at stake
To reduce heating costs, the most effective solution is to improve your home’s insulation… but that requires being able to carry out the work and set aside a certain budget for it.
Fortunately, there are a few effective and inexpensive steps that anyone can take.
Taking action
- Prevent drafts to keep cold air from entering,
- Minimize heat loss: close the shutters at night, draw the curtains over the windows (preferably thermal curtains), insulate doors leading outside,
- Create a cozy atmosphere: place rugs on the floors so your feet aren’t in direct contact with a cold surface, keep one or two throws handy on the couch…
- Wrap your hot water tank in an insulating cover: the water will cool down more slowly, so you’ll use less energy to keep it at the right temperature.
