Consumption
Buying second-hand, what are the benefits?
I understand what's at stake
The secondhand market has become much more diverse in recent years. It’s a trend that now spans all consumer sectors, from electronics to furniture to clothing. Many brands have even developed their own channels to offer their products for sale as secondhand items.
By buying a secondhand item (clothing, furniture, a phone, a toy, etc.):
- You extend the lifespan of these items.
- You prevent the production of new items.
- You reduce the strain on the planet’s resources and the amount of waste that needs to be processed.
But be careful: if you buy secondhand items at a discount simply to increase the number of items and clothes you own, the environmental benefit is lost.
