It's very difficult to put a figure on a vehicle's lifespan, either in terms of kilometres driven or in years. The fact is that it depends on many parameters: vehicle maintenance, accidents, driving style, engine type, dependence on electronics, etc. Some vehicles are ready for the scrap heap after 150,000 km, while others are still going strong after 400,000 km.

Yet a large part of a vehicle's footprint lies in its construction. Making it last is therefore essential and has a major impact on the carbon footprint.
