The AFCE report states that if the air conditioner’s charge level falls below 90 per cent, maintenance is required. The frequency of recharging over the unit’s entire service life is therefore determined based on the annual leakage rate. When the leakage rate reaches 10%, the air conditioning unit is recharged. Thus, the recharging frequency is calculated as follows: 10% / annual leakage rate. For example, if the annual leakage rate is 4%, the air conditioning unit will be recharged every 2.5 years (10% / 4% = 2.5 years). Over a 10-year service life, this corresponds to 4 recharges.
