We consider that for a departure at 7pm on the ticket, and an arrival at 7am, for the calculation of speed the crossing did not last 12h but 11h, because there are 30 minutes before the ferry starts and then 30 minutes of disembarkation. Of course, this may vary depending on the company and the type of ticket (pedestrian or car boarding), but it's an order of magnitude.

For short crossings of less than 3 hours, we deduct 10% of the time (also by convention), i.e. 20 minutes * 2 for 3 hours, for example.
