The wastewater treatment system is an essential public service for the health of citizens and the health of our waterways. It is one of the fundamental works of the networks underlying any French city.
The challenge is to reduce water pollution through preventive and curative approaches. Wastewater discharges directly into nature pollute the soil and rivers, but also the water tables from which a large part of the drinking water comes.
The proportion of households not connected to a wastewater treatment system varies widely between 0 (dense departments) and 35% (Indre).
We do not have an estimate of the carbon footprint of households without sewage treatment, but it should obviously not be zero.
