With the holidays around the corner, why not challenge your friends and family?
The holiday season is here, a time to reconnect with family and friends or both. With holiday feasts and gifts, this time of year is often followed by a bunch of New Year’s resolutions."
Studies confirm: our social circles play an important role in helping us change our habits. So why not use these gatherings as the perfect opportunity to start a more sustainable 2024 by encouraging each other to reduce our carbon footprints?
To make this easier, we’ve developed a new feature called "Challenge your friends" (though it works just as well with family!). Why? How? We’ll explain everything!
The impact of collective effort
Start a new conversation topic
Talking about carbon footprints isn’t always easy in everyday life. But it’s much simpler with the right tool! Group Mode provides the perfect excuse to start conversations naturally.
Motivational comparison
Knowing your carbon footprint is useful, but without any comparison, it can feel meaningless. Is it good? Or bad? Seeing your results, sharing your resolutions, and comparing with others can be a powerful reason to change.
The power of collective action
Many of the suggested actions at the end of the simulation make much more sense when tackled collectively. For example:
- Reducing meat consumption is easier when the whole household does it together.
- Energy renovation projects in shared housing (apartments, co-living spaces) are only effective when done at the building level.
- Carpooling becomes more practical when organized within a group of colleagues or neighbors.
Adding a fun factor
Comparing carbon footprints as a group turns it into a game, sparking curiosity, engagement, and enthusiasm, three triggers for learning and action, which are at the heart of Nos Gestes Climat.
Together, we make a bigger (or should I say, smaller!) impact
2 tons. That’s the per-person target we need to reach by 2050. Individual action can sometimes feel frustrating, but working as a group multiplies the impact by 2, 5, 10, or even 1,000!
Introducing "Challenge your friends"
With all this in mind, we developed a Group Mode designed for small communities: families, friends, and close-knit groups.
How does it work?
Group Mode allows participants to calculate and compare their carbon footprints, identify strengths and weaknesses, find the most impactful actions, and rank themselves on a carbon scoreboard.
Time to play!
Since its launch, over 10,000 participants have completed their simulations using Group Mode.
